The same opportunities without pulling men away from their families to teach kids how to tie bowlines, punch leather, and give cheesy handshakes and "rounds of applause". The whole scout culture is incredibly unapealing to our youth today, as well as most leaders. Most people wade throught it because the church sponsors the program, but it is very rareful beneficial, imo. I believe that a similar church designed program could fantastic. Cut the fat. Lower the expenses. Eliminate cheesy uniforms and beads while still offering fellowshipping and learning opportunities every week and on monthly overnighters. Focus on things that matter IN OUR TIME like education and future career development, hobbies/sports, service, and creating comraderie. To me, it is a no brainer. Looking back, me and all my friends despised the "organized" elements of scouting, and benefitted little from it, while loving the campouts and athletics. Big changes are needed
