killed. True, Shane had backed down a bit and stopped pointing his gun at Rick, but Rick knew that Shane was crazy and would come for him again. A more civilized Rick (pre Zombie Apocalypse) wouldn't have killed Shane, but Rick is finally realizing that some hard decisions have to be made, such as killing Shane.
