Big 12 expansion from the Texas Board
Source: http://www.shaggybevo.com/board/showthread.php/108844-Clemson-and-FSU-talk-not-going-away

There are many scenarios the Big 12 is preparing for, but this is what has been going on.

Clemson and Florida State have been approached by the Big 12 to join the conference. Clemson insists on bringing Miami with them; however, there is some resistance to that by some Big 12 schools. Now will those schools join? I have no clue, but there is no doubt that they have been approached. Neither school is leaving the ACC unless they both agree to leave together. I would say Clemson is more interested in joining the Big 12 than Florida State is. Both schools are waiting on the new commissioner before making a decision. Georgia Tech was on the radar, but it seems that they are happy in the ACC.

The Big 12 will push for two or three schools that would appeal Notre Dame only if Clemson and Florida State join. Those schools will not be invited unless Notre Dame joins first. The Big 12 has not approached these schools and will not unless Notre Dame shows high interest.

The Big 12 has Louisville on the radar, but their choices are Florida State and Clemson. If those two schools do not join then you can expect Louisville to be number 11 to join the conference. Oklahoma and Kansas are driving the Louisville to the Big 12 train. Texas, Iowa State, and Kansas State prefer other candidates, but will not block the school if school number 12 is appealing to them.

Louisvilles acceptance to the Big 12 will depend on whether Notre Dame joins and approval from the three schools that are currently not interested. Even if Notre Dame decides not to join and Florida State and Clemson do, Louisville still has a good chance on being member #13. I personally think that Louisville will end up in the conference.

BYU has very little chance of joining the Big 12. I think most schools in the Big 12 will block the move if they are considered for membership. I know Texas and Texas Tech will. We are going to expand east so we can get more schools closer to West Virginia. This is a high priority for the Big 12. They dont want West Virginia to be left alone. The appeal of the school does play a big factor, and BYU isnt appealing enough to go west.
