A problem from my POV is that LDS perhaps PERCEIVE that they already donate so much to a church organization (compared to, say those who are donating fans of Virginia Tech).
But, especially now, where the BOT and at least the football coaches are painting athletics at BYU pretty much like another auxiliary of the church (with similar ultimate goals). For example, Our leaders laud that Football is 4th on the spectrum of priorities.... that's just about where I place an activity like dodge ball on Tuesday night with the young men.
Little wonder CC donations are low compared to many other football first schools
Actually, LDS members are credited as being the MOST generous and giving organization in the US.... and since tithing and CC is looking more and more like going to a place with similar ultimate objectives, perhaps we are not as cheap as you state...
