Don't know how you can deduce anthing else
His official bio lists "Dr." -- I'm sure he has control over that content.

Press releases for years that quoted the Ph.d contain the obnoxious "Dr." title.

I'm sure he encouraged its usage over the years and, now that it's common vernacular, it gratifyingly strokes his ego.

The point is, of course, that the title is irrelevant in the context of running sports programs.
