I think BYU is very comfortable with exactly where the program is at right now, win 9-10 games, lose the big games, but its masked by the winning of 10 games. Win weak bowl games, dont get any black eyes from athletes screwing up in the community, produce productive young men that are good members of society, etc. This is great for most everybody, except for the die hards, who want BYU to be a perennial top 5 program, BYU is in danger of alienating these types fans, who are vital to any program!
