The only physical science they have is a minor in Chemistry and a major in math. The only engineering program they have is Computer Science. There are so many other examples of good uses of education money where this could have gone. If the church is going to put money into education, they need to invest it into developing their own schools, where there are plenty of good investment opportunities. Putting it into the U of U is a dumb attempt to play politics.

Right now the U is already getting $5 million a year in state subsidies for their athletic programs. They don't need tithe paying widows to support fat-cat lawyers.
