The Irony is
that Utah's mediocre past has helped ground expectations. So a run like Utah has had since 2003 - far beyond even it's biggest fans' expectations - is met with euphoria. At the same time, the core of Utah fans still maintain a reasonable set of expectations.

The sense is that Utah has bested expectations 4 or 5 years in a row now.(Just go back and look at year by year CB predictions for Utah since 2008.) For example, very few of us expected more than 7 wins last season. Yet here we are, where even after a 5 loss season, the Utah fan base is at peak excitement - ticket sales, merchandising, etc.

BYU seems the exact opposite. I like BYU and admire the program but this is an entitled fan base who seems disappointed in anything short of a top ten finish. To the tune where some folks wish to out a coach following a solid 10-3 season. Ironically, despite lofty fan expectations it's been over 15 years since BYU has even finished in the top ten.

The result has been fall seasons opening up with lofty expectations and over confident fans followed by huge disappointment and disgruntlement despite otherwise solid seasons.

In the end, IMO, it's better to be part of a blue-collar program who consistently overachieves than an entitled program who never seems to satisfy.

What's sad is that BYU fans - rather than reduce expectations - seem to resort to criticizing their own and/or trying to diminish the success of their peers (Utah, BSU, TCU).
