Tag was not a horrible contract IMO. The Jazz were forced to give him that contract or lose him. He was showing promise and the Grizzles had just overpaid for Big Country Reeves to the tune of 5 yrs $50 million. The Jazz gave Tag (IIRC) a 6 yr $38 million deal. Granted Tag didn't continue to improve like most hoped he would but averaging $6 million/yr was hardly a horrible contract for a starting center.
AK was just in the right place at the right time. His contract was up for renewal at the time Stockton and Malone both left and he was the Jazz' best player. Thankfully, IMO the Jazz learned from their mistakes.
You can find worse contracts than these on EVERY NBA team so to say the Jazz are horrible is .. well, myopic.
