You could spend a week talking to hundreds of people about college football in St Louis, and Utah would probably never come up in the conversation. BYU, however, would. I've been approached by 3 different Catholic friends here about going up to the ND game. People know I'm a BYU fan, and last year I frequently got approached by friends and acquaintances who watched them play on ESPN and wanted to talk about the games.
The yewts don't matter to anyone outside of the state of Utah. BYU does.
