...a guy I work with started watching BYU games on ESPN and even BYUtv and then coming up to me at work to talk to me about them. He's a college football fan and knows I went to BYU.
This whole thing between Utah and BYU is eerily similar to the Yankees/Red Sox rivalry in the 2000's. I'm a diehard Yankee fan since the early 70's (since Catfish Hunter and then Reggie Jackson signed with them). A good friend of mine hated the Yankees so much that he became a Red Sox fan in the 2000's because of his Pinstripe envy.
He became unbearable when the Red Sox finally won soemthing in 2004 and then again in 2007. Also there was a boatload of bandwagon fans that all became Red Sox lovers because of their hatred of the Yankees that now no longer follow the Sox anymore since they have begun falling apart again.
Things go in cycles and it's no different for the Yewts. They had a couple of pretty good but not absolutely great seasons. Things are settling down now and the yewts are 0-5 vs teams that have finished the season ranked in the top 25 since their highwater mark in 2008. Things will start returning to normal in Utah before long as the bandwagon BYU haters all filter away.

"I'll admit, BYU football in the 80s was very respectable. Very cool, classic Lavell. Alot of great players. Mcmahon, Young, Detmer. Very good teams."
