How did Utah get to be the #2 team in the country in 08?
They were voted there. That's how the BCS works. Teams get ranked based on polls. Polls get determined based on votes. Utah got ranked #2 despite their weak schedule and BYU got ranked #1 despite their weak schedule. That's the way it works.

"BTW I was born after '84 and am already 26. Your "championship means as much to me as Utah's glory days until the 70's mean to you so let's keep the conversation relevant shall we?"

Btw, being young, dumb and naive isn't something most people brag about. Utah finished in 8th place in the Pac12 last year and they haven't beaten a team that's finished the season ranked in the top 25 since 2008 (they're 0-5 since then). It looks as though Utah's glory years are in their rear view mirror as well. Whether it's 25 yrs or 5 yrs it's still just that, a thing of the past and ALL I hear from ute fans these days with regards to Utah glory is the 54-10 win over BYU. That's just further proof that our ute little brothers of the 2010's are just like our ute little brothers of the 70's, 80's and 90's.

There's an old saying, Kid..."History has a way of repeating itself." Your life is too limited to see that everything in life has a pattern and goes in trends. ute glory is fading fast. There was a brief strawfire flash of glory at the end of the McBride era and through the Urban Meyer era that Kyle benefitted from in 2008 until all of urban's players left for the NFL after that season and things began to slide back to the early 90's level again.

A bunch of McBride's and Meyer's recruits (a few in the late 90's, some more in the early 2000's and again through 2008) got into the NFL. Now that the team is ALL Kyle's recruits Utah is struggling to get players into the NFL again, just like before. You see, history has a way of repeating itself.

Your glory moment currently is the big win over BYU last season. You obsess over it and that's all you talk about. Just like in 1988 with your first really big win over BYU in ages. You guys stormed the field and made Tshirts to commemorate it. Now instead of making Tshirts you post incessantly about it. It's 1988 all over again.

If you guys really had moved past us then to you it would be just another game and you wouldn't feel the need to talk about it all the time. You didn't see BYU fans making Tshirts and rushing the field when they beat the living stuffing out of Utah 18 out of 19 times over one stretch (or soemthing close to that). To BYU fans it was just another game. For Utah fans, it always has been and currently still is and always will be your SUPER BOWL.

Case in point, Utah spent so much energy and gave so much effort in that game last year that they were thoroughly gassed for a month and lost their next 3 conference games in embarrassing fashion. They were absolutely spent and got rolled by 3 very mediocre Pac 12 teams who struggled to finish above .500

It took Utah literally a month to recover from the effort. BYU otoh, shook it off and turned things around from that point, went on a tear and won 9 of their next 10 games. To BYU it was just another game. To Utah it was their SUPER BOWL and they exhausted themselves in the effort and strain and ended up tanking their entire season as a result.
