I really don't care about the rivalry game. I actually think it will be nice not to play the U ever for a couple of reasons.
1. BYU sports is much bigger than the rivalry. This game is not important. All it does is provide the school across town the opportunity to salvage a lack luster season by beating their rival. I prefer they don't have that opportunity. I would rather just watch BYU sports do its thing, and let the U do theirs.
2. Think about how much easier life would be if you didn't have to go to work and see that pitiful Ute fan gloat over "his" win, as if in some way he played a role in the victory. And although neither of you were even on the field, "his" win makes him feel as though he is better than you. See the win to him means so much more then the other way around. A win for BYU means you don't have to deal with this guy for a year. It means you can have some peace and tranquility for a year. You don't care to run it down his throat.. By getting rid of this game we can have peace and tranquility all year long.
Instead, the conversation at the water cooler will be, "did you see how we almost beat UCLA?"
"Nope."
3. Utah is killing it instead of us. This is great! Bronco talked about ending it a few years ago, which I was for. But now KW is. This is perfect, cause now we don't have to take the flack for it. To the crazed fan who says
"If we played you guys we would kill you"
"Well I guess we will never know because your coach killed the game"
4. Recruiting will be better. When Utah become the door mat of the PAC-12, they will need that BYU game to win to try and save face in the state of Utah. When they don't have it, they will just look like another lackluster PAC school.
So I know a lot of people are mad about the rivalry, but I can only see it becoming a good thing for BYU and a bad thing for the U. Sure it was fun to watch and much better competition then some of the lads on the schedule. But I would much rather watch BYU play GT, ND, and the likes. We don't need this game. We just don't need it.
