Vai had kept his grievences "in house" rather than going public?

I assume Holmoe and Bronco (at least before going public) had an open door policy with Vai, so he could have expressed his feelings with them w/o going public, and he could have done so repeatedly until this hire was made.

But would TH and BM listened the same way if this was not cast into the public arena?
