I like these two programs a lot more than most of BYU's former opponents because:
Tradition
Both have deep traditions. In fact the traditions of these programs are are more rich then all of the programs on BYU's schedule last year "combined". Seriously, who does BYU play regularly that has the tradition that these two programs have?
Common Independence Thread
They are both Indy, and yes I realize Navy is slated to go to the Big East, but we all know that the BIG East has lost much of its clout and its future is questionable.
Game day/Atmosphere
Visiting a game at either of these locations is special. It would be an awesome experience, and the fan bases are respectable. BYU and its value system would be respected by both of these programs/fan bases.
Why must every team that BYU schedules be a top tiered juggernot? Why can't you see Navy as a better choice than Utah State? Why can't you see Army as a better choice than San Jose State University; or perhaps we could drop New Mexico State? I did not suggest these two programs because they are the next BCS contenders, but rather that they would be better than what we currently have, and because they would be good programs by which to forge a productive relationship for the future.
Navy has been a solid program as of late. Can you see my point?
