If I remember correctly, he (President Runia) was told something along the lines of the field at BYU being "white already to harvest" and that he could find his eternal companion and future missionary companion down there. As such, he came to BYU and has always planned on serving missions with his wife when he retires. Playing at BYU was his first mission and he'll serve more with his wife later on.
