...there are a lot of factors that could come into play. What if there is an undefeated conference champ also from the the ACC and an undefeated Boise St from the Big East (if that's where they end up)? Many experts are predicting a big season for Florida ST and a return to their glory of the 90's and early 2000's. Also Miami has a new coach who might be the guy to finally turn them around too. The ACC already has a very good Virginia Tech program that's top 15 most years and every so often breaks top 10.
An undefeated Boise St team will fare far better than an undefeated Utah team in the polls, so will an undefeated Florida St or Miami or Virginia Tech because they're all on the East Coast (cept BSU but they would be in an Eastern conf) and in the case of Miami and Fla St are long time traditional powers from a heavily influenced football region. Plus Boise St is an ESPN darling.
Even if Utah could find enough 4 leaf clovers to go undefeated in the Pac12 their own history shows they're not guaranteed of cracking the final four if there are more well-known, exciting and palatable teams out there. They've had 2 chances to do it in the past 8 yrs and couldn't pull it off either time (finished regular season in '04 #6, and in '08 at #7). There were one loss teams ranked ahead of them both times.

"I'll admit, BYU football in the 80s was very respectable. Very cool, classic Lavell. Alot of great players. Mcmahon, Young, Detmer. Very good teams."
