On Independence Day, it seems like a good time to post this - I'm excited about BYU's Independence. Sure there are some things that could be improved, but the future looks like it could be bright.
Some of you ninnies are like the loyalists during the revolution, afraid that Independence will fail and that we'll be isolated from the powers that be.
What's awesome about independence?
* Being on national television 6-10 times per year for football, being able to watch the majority of BYU basketball games on BYUtv, even being able to watch other sports on BYUtv (this is a much better television situation than Utah has, no question)
* Being able to schedule teams all over the country - it is fun to play different teams, see different parts of the country, hit up the local fanbases all around
* Earning far more $$$ than we ever made in the MWC and likely more than some of the other conferences (like the Big East) make that we can reinvest in our programs and facilities
* Using BYUtv as a missionary tool and as a way to build our international fanbase - so awesome to hear about soldiers around the world watching the Cougs on BYUtv
BYU is different and always will be. Sure, I would love to be in the Big12, but until then, I'm embracing Independence. We're one of the only schools in the country that can pull it off. That's pretty cool.
Happy Independence Day.
