If it's any consolation re: turning a blind eye/downplaying
I feel like I have to (more and more lately) downplay and turn a blind eye to the self-righteousness of many of my brethren BYU fans with whom I share the same religion. Particularly those who feel that cheering for BYU football is synonymous with being a good member of the church. It's kind of embarrassing.

And I like BYU. I really do. I cheer for them, just not as enthusiastically as I cheer for Utah. I am an alumni of Utah. They gave me a scholarship where BYU would not. I got a great job because I was able to network with another Utah grad, and I feel like they have been a very good school to me.

I feel though that this weekend has brought out everything wrong with the BYU perspective of the rivalry. If anything, CB this weekend has been an indictment on nearly every stereotype people complain about regarding BYU fans.
