I was listening to PK with special guest Riley Jensen on 1280 during my commute to work this morning. Riley said something that made me think about the current state of BYU football. He talked about how he felt that currently Utah's program has a lot of momentum which, if utilized correctly, can bring a lot of future success to their program. Now I don't want this post to be a comparison to Utah but rather what I feel is my biggest frustration and what I think is needed for BYU football.
I can't help but feel like the past 4 years that our program has reached a point of stagnation. Prior to that time things felt different because we were coming off the Crowton years and it was exciting to see the program be turned around from abysmal to a program that can consistently compete. But since then it feels like we are spinning our wheels with no light at the end of the tunnel. The only point of that time period where I could say I felt some positive momentum is when we beat OU in Dallas, but that was short lived as we got spanked by FSU and TCU which killed any momentum we had.
Our program is in need of some good news. Anything that can get the ball rolling in the right direction. An exciting Scheduling agreement, Bowl agreement, or High profile recruit to commit. But most important of all, for us to make a statement on the field. To make a statement locally and nationally, for us to have a little swagger in our step. We have to compete in big games this year. UTAH, BSU, GTech and ND are huge. I don't even think it is necessary that we win all those games but we have to come away at least 2-2 and we have to be competitive even in losses. We need to get the momentum back in our favor. That is what is needed so badly in our program right now. I hope our coaching staff has learned from past mistakes and has our team ready to make a statement this year. I feel like we currently have the talent on the team to do just that.
