"61,000 readers reveal the most and least reliable brands
Whirlpool was among the more reliable brands of bottom-freezers with icemakers. GE was among the more repair-prone brands of top-freezers and bottom-freezers with icemakers, while LG has been among the more repair-prone brands of side-by-sides with icemakers. That's what we found when we asked nearly 61,000 readers who bought a refrigerator between 2007 and 2011. The graph shows the percentage of brands that needed a repair or had a serious problem. Differences of less than 5 points aren't meaningful, and we've adjusted the data to eliminate differences linked solely to the age of the refrigerator. All refrigerators in the graphs are free-standing models. Models within a brand may vary, and design or manufacture changes may affect future reliability. Still, choosing a brand with a good repair history can improve your odds of getting a reliable model."
