Players I hope to see make an impact
Jamaal Williams RB - Looked great. I can see why all the hype up til now. He punched one in for a touchdown, late in the scrimmage.
Cody Raymond WR - The guy made some impressive catches and looked to have good feet. Looks solid
Taysom Hill QB - A bit rusty on a few snaps, but overall looked good. Has good arm strength and accuracy.
I got to sit by J.D. Falslev's mom. Their entire family went to Utah State, but they're BYU fans now in a big way. Something she said really stood out to me. She said that one of the major things for her, as a parent, is the BYU coaching staff. She said their whole family just loves the staff because of how they teach the players. She mentioned a few things such as respecting women, putting school first, etc. I know some guys on CB are not too excited by the approach the staff takes when it comes to these types of things because maybe BYU misses out on some great recruits as a result. But I believe it's a good approach because it's the right approach for the types of players we want to see play at BYU. Her relating that was good to hear. Parents notice these kinds of things and it makes a difference.
The Ones didn't really play in the scrimmage so we didn't get to see much of them other than practice drills. But from what I saw, things are looking good. Very few mistakes and a lot of focus.
The offensive line did not disappoint. They are as slim as we've been hearing. I seriously mistook several of them for Tight Ends. It's crazy what a difference a year makes. No more fat bellies hanging over. I hope they perform on the field as well as they look.
And finally, one last thought that has nothing to do with the team. Why is it that I always get stuck behind the loud mouth who talks insanely loud, disturbing everyone around him, and advertises to everyone within earshot that he is a complete backwards dough head. The guy seriously would not shut up. I could feel everyone around me seething with irritation. He was going on and on about being a ref for kids football teams. And then he announces to everyone that he is completely against women referees. I can understand that there are still people who cling to the outmoded ways of thinking of the past. But I think most of them are self-aware enough to not voice those ridiculous opinions to everyone around them. It was pretty awesome because as soon as he said it, J.D. Falslev's mom turned around and gave him a look. At that point he realized what an idiot he was and that everyone around him didn't appreciate his loudmouthed behavior. So he shut up after that and thankfully we didn't have to listen to him anymore.
That is all.
Except that it was blazin' hot beyond belief and not even a whiff of a breeze.
