Last year it was evident that the team, especially the offense, didn't get in enough TEAM work to really gel. The practice reports were 3-4 passes thrown for the 1st string QB, that's just not enough.
But Bronco is still very concerned about minimizing injuries. We've had fall camps before which really took a toll on our health with too many guys dropping out with season ending problems.
So, if you keep the old philosophies of lots of full pads and hitting, while increasing TEAM sessions, you are going to be risking more injuries.
So, the experiment is to increase volumes, more TEAM, more reps, but reduce the risk by not hitting quite as much early on. We're still having scrimmages (yesterday, and another on Tuesday next week), and I think the camp generally will build up to hitting more toward the end of camp. But why not work on offensive, QB/WR timing, etc with large volumes, quick pace, etc. with a reduction in hitting since it isn't quite as important for those pieces.
