"Some animals are just not meant to be tame. I'd put pit bulls into that category." If you look up the history of pitbulls, they were bred to be tame to their human masters, but relentless in the "arena". Pits that showed a tendency to lash out against their owners were put down so that trait was bred out.
Keep in mind that in temperament tests, pits have one of the highest pass rates among any breed.
I don't disagree that the majority of bite cases are pits or dogs that are just classified as pits but are actually mixed breeds. However, I think these cases get reported more often because of the stigma that the pit has these days. Pits are way more sexy to report in the news than a Labrador.
Depending on what decade we live in, different breeds have been vilified(the doberman, Shepard, Rotts), these days, its the pits turn.
Either way, Pits are no doubt among the strongest breeds of dogs in the world and should, in my opinion, be respected rather than feared.
