This was in a DN article about the progress of Utah during fall camp:
"Whittingham's longtime friend and former BYU teammate, Vai Sikahema, spoke to the team at the conclusion of practice. "He's a big-time Ute supporter," Whittingham said while noting that Sikahema has several ties to the program."
Geez, the guy is getting on my last nerve. I think what compounds it the most is the pious holier than thou tone he has when he gets on his soapbox and starts preaching to us all about taking the high road in life. It's widely reported that he held a grudge against Bronco and BYU because they didn't hire his cousin Mark Atuaia as RB coach and has continued to stick it to BYU in his articles ever since with thinly veiled digs.
When BYU hired Mark to be an associate AD I wondered if we'd see a softening by Vai towards BYU. I can see his immense pride in the tone he takes when writing negative things about BYU so I wouldn't expect to see him openly apologize and make amends but at the very least I thought I'd see warm up a little towards his alma mater. If there's one thing I can't stand it's disloyalty in a person. When I read that quote by Whitt it was the last straw. I used to be a big admirer of him but now find him to be a small-minded, petty, disloyal, hypocrite. Reading about him sucking up to the Yewts really rubbed me the wrong way.

"I'll admit, BYU football in the 80s was very respectable. Very cool, classic Lavell. Alot of great players. Mcmahon, Young, Detmer. Very good teams."
