I realize I'm ridiculously late to the game re: Hunger Games
But I did just watch the movie. Most of you know I'm no fan of the series. Really enjoyed HG, but couldn't bring myself to finish reading CF. That said, the movie was far better than the book. Limiting itself to Katniss' POV in the book hurts while the director was able to do far more in opening up the world. I realize SC helped write the screenplay, but I guarantee there were elements that built on her initial script. Thank goodness they also played down the love triangle storyline. I think the main reason that the movie was more successful, imo, was because the director had a bigger vision to build on than Collins' when she wrote book one. I've stated this before, but I really think SC wrote the series intending on a it being a very violent love triangle story, but it changed upon her success into something grander. The movie discarded a lot of the crap in the book and fleshed what really counted. And probably the second main reason the movie was better was because Jennifer Lawrence portrayed a much stronger and more interesting character than Collins wrote.
