I think that pretty much nails it. Case in point was Roger French
French was a tough-as-nails coach who demanded that same from his players and had good results. I remember towards the end of his career that a couple of Olineman got on one of the BYU sports boards of the day and was crying about how mean French was. Maybe French was over-the-top, who knows, but a little hard-nosed disciplinarianism (is that a word?) is a good thing.
