Actually Anae when he began
tailoring recruiting efforts to match his desire to utilize the wider splits, was looking for a taller leaner build. A 6'6 275lb player coming in as a freshmen, leaving as a 300lb senior. The average weight of Oline players in the NFL is 304-305lbs. Yes there are freaks who are much larger and have a unique body type to be fast and agile carrying that weight. However to work in Anae's wide split scheme you need to be faster, more agile and more athletic. Anae was working to phase out the hog-bellied types with his recruiting, yet it wasn't until BYU coaches sans Anae decided to re-focus their strength and conditioning programs to be more player specific that Anae's frame standard was achieved. Now it is up to him to bring back the aggression and player standard.
