In my early thirties I would train martial arts
and I finally settled on Kung Fu because I lived in the country and this Kwoon happened to be close by and my oldest boys who were 7 and 9 at the time wanted to train with me. The Kwoon was rather successful and our Sifu was an excellent teacher regarding technique and the artistic flow of the art. Friday's we would have sparring competitions. Now there were a couple of guys around my age who did well training the forms (kuen, taolu), but when it came time to spar, I loosened up immediately and instead of worrying about my technique, I focused my aggression towards them. Here it was about contact and I wasn't worried if my Tiger stance was exact. As a matter of fact, I didn't even worry about stance unless I was on the defense. My dad taught me to box when I was younger so I was already comfortable with this kind of contact. There I was in my yellow belt kicking the crap out of guys who had been practicing for several years, yet failed to understand that when it was time to fight it was time to get nasty. I implemented my learning into a practical skill to strike my opponent. This one guy was almost comical. He looked so uncomfortable in the square when he knew I was to fight him. You could almost hear him thinking what stance he would take and what series of strikes kicks and blocks he would use. Me I just dropped low to the floor and swept his feet out from under him, rolled over and popped him in the face with the back of my hand. He would stare at the Sifu with a look of "we never learned that in class" and afterward he would try to show how what I did was in fact what we learned in class.

Football is not a testimony meeting. It is controlled chaos which can often times get out of control.
