Nope... those years they would not have gone. Did you forget that in '96 they
were already ignored by the bowl alliance? How exactly, would they have won or contended for the NC? '01?? That's a laugher since BYU was largely a paper tiger. We all knew it, but didn't want to admit it. They wouldn't have come close enough even if they did beat Hawaii to be in the NC picture.
As for '84. That was a looooong time ago. Different era. In this era, BYU's '84 team wouldn't have even contended for the NC. Don't believe me? Look at BSU and TCU. Got a lot of hot air blown their way a couple of times about NC, but that was the extent of it. They never really got a sniff about the NC.
