As Carolyn Jessop explained, the FLDS model to allow just a few old males to have exlusive access to forcing marriage on the young girls is a numbers game. Once Jeffs became the prophet he started lowing the "she is available to be married age" below 18, and 5 years ago when Carolyn escaped the age had already reached age 14.

The numbers game is that from that point on, some ratio (let's say 9 out of 10) of the boys raised in the compound are viewed as slave labor, to be placed on construction jobs (with the income from their labors funneled to the FLDS males at the top and to Jeffs in particular) until they are old enough to become a threat to the old males) of the boys are seen as disposable assets to be tossed aside. That means the 1 in 10 boys (if the "lost boys" figure will be 9 out of 10, under the girls at age 13 and 14 get married) are "chosen" to later become one of the ruling males, so that the FLDS regime can continue into the next generation, with the most servile or "chosen" males to move to the top.

Since there is some cash flowing into the FLDS - from the lost boys working and turning their checks over to the FLDS plus the large number of "single" mothers who went on welfare to allow the state to help pay for all this - Jeffs and his cronies do have money to invest in things that they value.

You saw it on the news - Jeffs was arrested in his brother's red Cadillac El Dorado with something like $40,000 in cash and credit cards. A year or two earlier, one of Jeffs' close relatives was arrested with more like $140,000 in cash.

Fortunately, the state of Utah has set up some kind of trust receivership to seize FLDS assets and to put a small crimp into the "we love red Cadillac El Dorada" spending habits of the predatory males at the top of this pyramid. That crimp was not soon enough or thorough enough to make them inable to buy 1700 acres of real estate in rural Texas and re-start their zion empire.

From their actions, the FLDS leaders obviously view the "lost boys" - before they are kicked out as an income stream, to be used and tossed out - not as a precious asset to be invested in, by a strong K-12 education.

For the males who survive the 9/10 "cut," who knows? Maybe they are allowed to go to the local junior college. Somebody needs to learn accounting, to run their operations.
