Those weren't "Hans' teams." He was a freaking D lineman. Like it or not those were Lavell's teams. (I AM NOT TRASH TALKING LAVELL EDWARDS!!!)
But he was the coach during those years. Hans has the right to his opinions. He is a member of the media now. He has no loyalty to Bronco. He calls it like he sees it.

Everybody knows Bronco is a great guy, but when you get blown out at home and the words "national championship" and "nation's elite" are continually brought up to the media then like it or not the criticism is sure to follow. Bronco needs to shut his mouth and just talk football. When you bring religion into a carnal, competitive, worldly sport like football you're asking for trouble. Sure when we are winning its great and everyone will commend you. But when we're losing it can be a negative and a reason for people to bad mouth the church and Bronco's beliefs. (mine as well) "Never cast your pearls before swine." I'm not saying our sports teams can't be used as an effective missionary tools I'm just saying sometimes less is more.

I love Coach Rose. I know he is a strong member and a GREAT coach. His team is "winning the right way" All living the honor code. Some are RM's who served great missions, getting it done in the class room and most importantly from a fan standpoint WINNING!! 3 conference titles in a row, wins over our rival, and good non-conference wins against good programs. I'm sure if somebody in the press asked Coach Rose about the church and the unique challenges of coaching at BYU he'd be happy to address that. But more than not he is usually just there to talk basketball and as a fan that is how I like it. Lavell did the same thing. He has been an amazing ambassador for BYU and the church but he was never the type to bring up religion or values. Just good old fashion football.
