According to recent Florida State BOT member Derrick Brooks, the big 12 has reached out to FSU.

Here is some audio his interview today.

Two Nashty threads exemplify critics ignorance

This thread by Nashty and all the "me too" quotes by Bronco critics demonstrate the basic lack of knowledge of the BYU football program.
http://www.cougarboard.com/board/message.html?id=8641380

At least in this thread Nashty admits he is too lazy to look up the attrition numbers.
http://www.cougarboard.com/board/message.html?id=8644184

I've written on this subject multiple times before, but will keep writing about it as long as I see these dopey posts about lack of player development. Bronco has had a competitive disadvantage against BSU, Utah, and TCU the entire time he has been coach because of player ATTRITION.

Bronco took over a program after multiple players had been kicked out and the 2005 recruiting season virtually over. His first real recruiting class was 2006. Bronco's first three classes sent out 38 missionaries and 20 returned. This is a temporary net ATTRITION of 18 players. Missions have never resulted in this large of a numbers discrepancy in BYU history. Certainly NO other program in the NCAA has faced a problem like this. In addition to significant mission attrition, 10 of Bronco's first 12 non-mission HS players quit the program before completing their eligibility. Only Diluigi and Pendelton used 4 years of eligibility from the non-missionary players in the 2006 & 2007 classes.

Gary Crowton caused attrition, mission attrition, and attrition from non-mission players in Bronco's first classes have left the program short of scholarships, talent, and experience the entire time he has been coach. It is the EXACT cause of the weak senior classes of 2010 and 2011.

The number of players prepared for the NFL is strongly correlated to the number of talented athletes that have graduated. Bronco has had fewer of "initial scholarship" players (2006-2011)complete their eligibility than any other Div 1 program built primarily on HS players. (Bronco still has one Crowton recruit from 2005 and 25 recruits from 2006 & 2007).

Rather than run on endlessly about lack of player development, I'd like to see the Bronco critics attempt to refute the above facts. As in the past, I'm betting that critics will only quibble that my numbers may be off by a player or two.

I plan to judge Bronco "ceiling" over the next 4 years -- now that he has a level playing field. I suggest most fair minded fans should do the same.

Jabari Parker is seriously considering BYU

You can tell in how he spoke in the Time interview that BYU has a shot. Without being asked, he mentioned Kansas and then added "...you never know about these mid-majors, because they surprise people all the time." in reference to his choice of college to attend.

I don't believe the talk that BYU has a 5% chance.

The more time Dave Rose gets with Jabari Parker the better. He continues to listen to BYU and hasn't told them to back off at all. BYU has been recruiting him for years now. (BYU offered him five years ago.)

The fact that some no-name white kid from upstate New York came to Provo and left as a top-10 NBA lottery pick has allowed BYU to not only be in the picture, but to be a serious contender for Jabari's services.

Jabari's Mom would probably be happy to see him at BYU. I'm not so confident his Dad wants that, but he seems very respectful of Jabari's choice. His father is likely more concerned about the choice of BYU, but Jimmer's success has likely assuaged some of those concerns.

Then there is Harvey Unga. Harvey still seems to have a very positive look on his BYU days, so I only see him encouraging Jabari to come to Provo. I have no idea how close Harvey is to Jabari, but they hung out together in Provo back in March. Here's hoping Harvey has been able to get him excited about Provo.

I think BYU at least makes his top 4, but I do not doubt Dave Rose's ability to seal the deal. He has done a masterful job at getting his guys. There's only been a handful of players slip from his grasp, and most of them have been non-LDS.

Phi Ford - Disappointment

Has anyone else thought about the possibility of him not getting a scholarship to come to BYU? I mean just because he had 2 BCS scholarships out of high school does not exactly mean BYU will offer him.

All I know is that I have loved his story and admire his passion as a new member, but there could be some major disappointment from him and the fan base if he does not end up at BYU.

So fans, let's enjoy this ride but know that he will or will not be offered a scholarship to go to BYU.

Jake Heaps: the gift that keeps giving

Jake heaps didn't end up like we all hoped he would, but it's still cool to see he doesn't have a grudge against the school (I would if I were him) and he keeps on recruiting for BYU. Look at the talent he's helped BYU get: Apo, Stoudt, KVN, and now Ford. Once his career is over, we should bring him back as the recruiting director, the kid knows how to sell BYU.

been working on this last few weeks...finally finished. here's the facts...draw your own conclusions.

NFL Draft History:

BYU -

- 2006 - 1 player drafted - (7/218)
- 2007 - 1 player drafted - (2/40)
- 2008 - 1 player drafted - (4/123)
- 2009 - 2 players drafted - (4/127, 7/215)
- 2010 - 1 player drafted - (4/114)
- 2011 - 0 players drafted
- 2012 - 0 players drafted

- avg # of players per year entering NFL = .857 (6 total)
- avg round/pick of said player(s) = 4.667/139.5
- trend = extreme downward trend...highest draft totals were in 2005 (3 picks), the year before bronco got to provo. no picks in the last 2 seasons.

BSU -

- 2006 - 1 player drafted (2/47)
- 2007 - 4 players drafted (2/61, 5/172, 6/191, 7/222)
- 2008 - 2 players drafted (1/12, 5/143)
- 2009 - 0 players drafted
- 2010 - 1 player drafted (1/29)
- 2011 - 3 players drafted (2/44, 3/78, 7/213)
- 2012 - 6 players drafted (1/19, 1/31, 3/81, 5/167, 6/205, 7/221)

- avg # of players per year entering NFL = 2.43 (17 total)
- avg round/pick of said player(s) = 3.76/113.88
- trend...steady and upward...steeply so in last two years now that peterson is getting "his" players through.

TCU -

- 2006 - 3 players drafted (4/104, 5/162, 6/189)
- 2007 - 2 players drafted (4/114, 6/196)
- 2008 - 0 players drafted
- 2009 - 5 players drafted (5/137, 6/186, 6/192, 6/197, 7/225)
- 2010 - 3 players drafted (1/31, 2/47, 5/169)
- 2011 - 5 players drafted (2/35, 5/138, 5/153, 6/190, 7/219)
- 2012 - 2 players drafted (5/147, 7/220)

- avg # of players per year entering NFL = 2.86 (20 total)
- avg round/pick of said player(s) = 5.0/153.0
- trend...steady, lots of players entering, not super high picks, but quantity here.

Utah -

- 2006 - 2 players drafted (7/245, 7/246)
- 2007 - 2 players drafted (2/37, 4/108)
- 2008 - no players drafted
- 2009 - 4 players drafted (2/57, 2/61, 6/188, 7/252)
- 2010 - 6 players drafted (2/40, 2/45, 5/148, 5/156, 5/166, 7/223)
- 2011 - 2 players drafted (5/139, 6/179)
- 2012 - 1 player drafted (3/95)

- avg # of players per year entering NFL = 2.43 (17 total)
- avg round/pick of said player(s) = 4.53/140.29
- trend - kind of "up and down" but generally a lot of quantity here and decent avg. (note utah had 5 players drafted in 2005 after Fiesta Bowl win)
