BYU vs Tennessee: Depth Chart, Personnel Notes heading into Knoxville

NCAA Football: Brigham Young at Wisconsin Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

Coach Sitake and select players spoke to the media Monday afternoon looking ahead to the Tennessee game. We highlighted some of the depth chart and personnel changes from last week’s game versus Utah.

The depth chart is largely the same heading into Tennessee. Below are the changes from last week’s depth chart.

  • BYU rotated seven offensive lineman versus Utah, and this week’s depth chart reflects that again. The only change from last week comes at right tackle — Keanu Saleapaga and Harris LaChance are listed as co-starters, but Saleapaga is the first name this week; Saleapaga got the start versus Utah.
  • Defensive Line: Devin Kaufusi is now a co-starter with Zac Dawe at defensive end, with Trajann Pili the starter at the opposite end. Last week, Zac Dawe was the lone starter at DE and Kaufusi was the co-starter with Pili on the opposite side. Darius McFarland, who spent time at fullback and tight end during camp, replaced Seleti Fevaleaki at one of the backup DE spots.
  • Linebackers: Payton Wilgar is the backup at weakside linebacker behind Isaiah Kaufusi in addition to being a co-starter at ILB with Kavika Fonua.
  • Sawyer Powell is the starter at FS after being co-starter with Hayden Livingston last week.
  • Kick Returner: Dax Milne and Tyler Allgeier are the kick returners.

Personnel Notes

  • Injuries: Kalani said that “we (BYU) didn’t have anyone that we’re gonna lose for this next week.” Khyiris Tonga didn’t play much of the second half versus Utah and “got banged up a little bit”, but they anticipate him playing at Tennessee.
  • Moroni Laulu-Putuatu wasn’t medically cleared to play versus Utah but participated in BYU’s Monday practice. Kalani said BYU would like to use him and seemed hopeful that he’ll play Saturday.
