Kirk Herbstreit Says USC-BYU Could Be ‘Game Of The Day’ In Week 3

PROVO, Utah – The ESPN College Gameday crew is in Ames, Iowa for No. 19 Iowa vs. Iowa State.

During the program, hosts Reece Davis, Desmond Howard, Lee Corso, and Kirk Herbstreit discussed No. 24 vs. BYU which kicks off today at 1:30 p.m. (MDT) on KSL Newsradio and can be seen nationally on ABC.

All of the conversations for the matchup surrounded how USC will follow up their big win against Stanford last week in the Coliseum.

Kirk Herbstreit on USC: “This is a football team, to me, how they handle success will be huge in this game. Their coach has talked about that. This is the same that people looked at their first six games and were saying, 2-4, 1-5, at best 3-3. They need to hold onto that. People doubting them,” said Herbstreit. “I’m excited to see Slovis. To me Des, today, in Provo, I think it’s more about the offensive line and the line of the scrimmage. Running the football to me will be the key to this football game for the Trojans.

“I think SC finds a way. I think it could be the game of the day, but I think SC wins it.”

USC is currently a 4 1/2-point favorite over BYU as the two teams meet for the first time since 2004. The last time USC made a trek out to Provo to take on BYU.

Gameday host Reece Davis added, “We’ll see how much USC’s willing to run because BYU’s rush defense hasn’t been good so far.”

The Cougars rush defense has not been good so far. BYU currently ranks 128th out of 130 teams nationally as they are giving up 252 yards through the first two weeks of the season.
