BYU Senior Zayne Anderson Out For Season With Shoulder Injury

Sep 21, 2019, 6:04 PM | Updated: Sep 22, 2019, 1:37 am

PROVO, Utah – BYU senior safety Zayne Anderson is out for the remainder of the 2019 season due to a lingering shoulder injury.

Kalani Sitake announced that his BYU team would be without Anderson the rest of this year in the postgame press conference after BYU’s loss to Washington.

This is the second consecutive year where Anderson has suffered a season-ending injury and it’s involving his shoulder once again.

According to sources, Anderson will look to apply for a sixth year of eligibility from the NCAA or he could pursue a professional football career in the NFL. The former Stansbury Park native will be graduating this December.

Sitake said in the postgame press conference that Anderson would be having surgery next week.

Anderson appeared in two games this season. In BYU’s season opener against Utah, Anderson started at flash linebacker. The following week, Anderson was a reserve at safety in the Cougars win at Tennessee.

In those two appearances Anderson totaled 10 tackles and 0.5 tackles for loss.

Depth tested with injuries

Kalani Sitake said in his postgame press conference that Anderson is the only season-ending injury in his program.

Sitake noted that redshirt freshman Keenan Pili who suffered an injury on the first defensive series in the Cougars win against USC is not done for the year with an undisclosed injury.

Linebackers Chaz Ah You and Isaiah Kaufusi suffered injuries last week against USC and were able to play in the game against No. 22 Washington.

Tyler Allgeier and Devin Kaufusi were moved from running back and defensive end respectively to bolster the depth at linebacker.
