BYU offense breaks out in blowout win over Utah State

Now that’s how a BYU-Utah State game is supposed to be.

BYU’s offense rolled up 639 yards and Quarterbacks Jaren Hall and Baylor Romney were great all night as BYU blew out the Aggies 42-14 Saturday night in Logan.

Jaren Hall was fantastic in the first half, passing for 214 yards and running for 54 yards and 2 TDs, but a helmet to helmet hit on his TD run gave him another apparent concussion.

Baylor Romney filled in the second half and picked up where he left off versus Boise State, throwing for 191 yards and 2 touchdowns. Eight different BYU players caught passes, led by Lopini Katoa’s 129 receiving yards on 4 catches.

BYU’s defense gave up 521 yards, but they forced Jordan Love into 4 turnovers and only gave up 14 points on on the night. Love was able to rack up yards, but BYU consistently dropped 8 into coverage and came up with timely turnovers.

Overall, one of BYU’s best performances of the Sitake era. The Boise State win and tonight’s blowout over Utah State all but seals up an extension for Sitake at season’s end.

The schedule now eases up the next three games with matchups versus Libery (6-3), Idaho State (3-6) and UMass (1-8) before a season-ending matchup versus 25th-ranked San Diego State.
