There’s plenty of reason for Sorensen, the former BYU safety, and Paul Rudd to celebrate, after the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Tennessee Titans 35-24 on Sunday in the AFC championship game to advance to Super Bowl LIV on Feb. 2 in Miami.
It’s the first Super Bowl appearance for the Chiefs organization in 50 years and will be the first NFL title game for Sorensen, who’s in his sixth year playing for Kansas City.
Twitter user Leonel Palazuelos shared a video Sunday showing Rudd, who plays Ant-Man in the Marvel Avenger movies, posing with Palazuelos and Sorensen’s older brother, Cody Sorensen, and giving a shoutout to the Chiefs safety, who’s earned the nickname Dirty Dan, while also referencing a viral video featuring the affable Rudd.
“Look at us, Rudd, look at us,” Palazuelos said, with all three responding, “Hey, who would have thought? Not me.”
“We’re going to Miami,” Cody Sorensen said, which Rudd respond with an emphatic shoutout to the Chiefs safety: “Dirty Dan! Dirty Dan!”
Rudd was a constant presence on social media last weekend celebrating the Chiefs’ win. The longtime actor studied theater at the University of Kansas.
Daniel Sorensen has played an integral role in Kansas City’s current playoff run, with 17 tackles, a forced fumble and a pass deflection so far in the postseason. In the team’s divisional round win over Houston, he made a key stop on a fake punt that set up a Kansas City touchdown and forced a fumble minutes later as the Chiefs rallied from down 24-0 to beat the Texans 51-31.
In the AFC title game, Sorensen had eight tackles and a pass deflection, highlighted by a bruising hit on Tennessee’s Ryan Tannehill on a third-down play, stopping the quarterback short of a first down.
