Current BYU head coach Mark Pope was the head coach at UVU the past five seasons before becoming the lead man in Provo. Pope and BYU are currently in the midst of a potential NCAA Tournament at-large bid campaign with a 21-7 record.
Utah Valley is coached by Mark Madsen, a former NBA player with the Los Angeles Lakers, who is in his first year as a college head coach.
“We are excited to play a top-notch program in BYU,” said Madsen. “I love in-state games because they are great for the community, the fans, and players from both teams.”
Since UVU became a Division 1 program in 2003, BYU and the Wolverines have met four previous times with BYU holding a 3-1 lead in the series. In 2016, Utah Valley pulled off one of the biggest wins in the history of its program defeating BYU 114-101 at the Marriott Center in 2016.
