Lehi High TE Trey Andersen Flips Commitment From BYU To Pitt

LEHI, Utah – Lehi High School’s Trey Andersen has flipped his commitment from BYU to the Pitt Panthers in the ACC.

Originally a member of the 2019 recruiting class, Andersen committed to BYU back in January 2019 but never ended up signing a National Letter of Intent before leaving to serve a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The NCAA places a limit on the number of players that schools can announce in a given class. So having a player not sign an NLI isn’t an uncommon practice for BYU. Andersen was a Preferred Walk-On commit at the time he pledged to BYU in 2019.

While currently serving his mission for the Church in Fresno, California, Andersen starting receiving offers from Power 5 programs that included Pat Narduzzi’s Pitt Panthers.

On Tuesday, Andersen’s personal Twitter account announced he was headed to Pitt.

A tight end during his career at Lehi, there was speculation on what position Andersen and his 6-foot-6 frame could end up playing at BYU after completing his mission. It was either tight end or offensive tackle, following in the footsteps of his father Jason who played at BYU from 1994-97. Who then went on to play with the New England Patriots in the NFL.

But there’s no speculation where the younger Andersen will play at Pitt. Andersen will be at tight end, a position that according to Panther insiders was an area of need in their class of 2021.

In his senior season in 2018 with the Pioneers, Andersen had 28 receptions for 487 yards and two touchdown grabs in his only year as Lehi’s full-time starter at tight end.
