SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter said that he’s already texted former BYU quarterback Zach Wilson to welcome him to New York.
Wilson is currently projected by most mock drafts as the No. 2 pick in the upcoming 2021 NFL Draft. The New York Jets currently own that pick.
New York’s need to draft a franchise quarterback increased when the Jets traded Sam Darnold to the Carolina Panthers on April 5.

During the April 6 edition of ESPN’s Get Up, Schefter revealed a message he sent to Wilson in response to Mike Greenberg asking if Wilson was a lock to the Jets.
“I sent him a text yesterday. I said, ‘Welcome to New York, Zach, officially,'” Schefter replied, “That’s about as far as I can go right now.”
It appears the Jets have now locked in to a QB at the No. 2 spot in the draft. Is there any question left that it will be Zach Wilson?@AdamSchefter: "I sent him a text yesterday. I said, 'Welcome to New York, Zach, officially.'" pic.twitter.com/jOnJavVlzR

“Zach Wilson would seem to be the obvious choice at number two. It looks like he is headed to the Jets,” Schefter continued. “You don’t trade Sam Darnold and make that move without knowing that you’re going to pick a quarterback at two. So let’s play it out. Trevor Lawrence is going one to Jacksonville. The Jets are on the clock and they’re going to take Zach Wilson from Brigham Young.”
New York Jets
The Jets traded Darnold a week and half after seeing Wilson throw during BYU’s Pro Day.
On March 26, New York sent its general manager, head coach, and offensive coordinator to Provo to watch Wilson’s Pro Day throwing session.
During the event, Jets GM Joe Douglas and Wilson were seen having a conversation on the field of BYUâs Indoor Practice Facility.
Well, that was some show Zach Wilson put on today at the BYU pro day. đł

After the Pro Day, Wilson was asked about his interactions with the Jets throughout the draft process.
âGreat staff, love those guys. Joe Douglas is a great guy and it was good to see him out here. They got a good thing going,â Wilson said.
