PROVO — The Cougars will meet the Spartans and Tigers in Provo, after all.

Just a dozen or more years later.

Yes, the 2020 scheduling pattern of announcing a game on three day's notice like BYU's must-see-TV matchup at Coastal Carolina has reverted to the mean.

The Cougars' 2020 home game with SEC foe Missouri has been moved to Sept. 8, 2035, the Tigers announced Wednesday in a large dump of new games added to the schedule. The two teams were originally scheduled to meet Oct. 10 before the Southeastern Conference shifted to a conference-only schedule as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

BYU will also host Michigan State on Sept. 11, 2032, the Spartans previously announced. The Spartans made the announcement when they added Louisiana to the 2024 schedule, while also moving a rescheduled contest with Toledo to Sept. 5, 2026.

The Cougars are 1-0 all-time against Michigan State, a 31-14 win in East Lansing as part of the opener of the two-game, home-and-home series beginning in 2016. That series was supposed to be concluded in 2020, but will be pushed out another 12 years, instead.

The Tigers also moved a similar nonconference game with Louisiana from 2020 to 2025, as well, among other moves.

The game is currently BYU's second contracted game for 2035, in addition to Stanford, which is scheduled for Sept. 1, 2035. That game will feature a group of players who are currently between the ages of 4 and 8 — or as old as 10, depending on non-football factors like missionary service for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The Cougars are 1-1 all-time against Missouri, with the Tigers claiming the most recent win, 20-16 on Nov. 14, 2015 at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.
