NY Jets: Zach Wilson lights it up in best practice of OTAs

NY Jets quarterback Zach Wilson has wasted little time acquainting himself with his new coaching staff and teammates.

The rookie second overall pick has expectedly been one of the talking points of OTAs to this point, and he's backed up the hype with his play on the field.

On Tuesday, however, he put together his best performance yet. A performance that was not only excellent by rookie standards, but fantastic by any standards.

Wilson shined during Tuesday's OTAs, the eighth of 10 voluntary practices the Jets will hold. It was the fourth that media were allowed to attend, and it was easily Wilson's best showing.

For the first time in the four practices open to media, the Jets ran standard 11-on-11 drills, and Wilson couldn't have looked much better. He completed 9-of-11 passes during the 11-on-11 period including what was likely the highlight of the spring so far.

Wilson aired it out deep to a streaking Elijah Moore who got just enough separation from cornerback Bryce Hall to make a diving 40-yard grab. Moore extended his entire body to make the catch, and Wilson couldn't have made a better throw.

Both Wilson and Moore looked special on that play. And that's what you want to see from these spring practices.

Wilson later made another superb throw dropping a pass over double coverage right into the waiting arms of Keelan Cole who tip-toed the sideline.

Darryl Slater of NJ.com described the pass in more detail expressing awe and excitement about the Jets rookie QB.

Wilson was making tight-window throws all afternoon with another notable play coming during 7-on-7 drills. The former BYU star got the defense to jump with a hard count before firing in a laser to Braxton Berrios who made the catch in between two defenders.

Moore, Cole, and Berrios have all excelled during OTAs so far, and the play of their quarterback has been a big reason for it.

Wilson showed poise on Tuesday. He flashed the ability to throw with touch and anticipation as well the ability to know when to fire a pass into a tight window.

He looked confident. He looked like he belonged. And most importantly, he looked special.

It's still far too early to make any declarative statements, but Zach Wilson has looked the part of a franchise quarterback during OTAs.

And Tuesday was his greatest showcase.
