Recapping Collin Chandler’s In-Home Visit with BYU Coaches

2022 guard Collin Chandler is the top prospect in the state of Utah and one of the best high school players to ever come through the state. Collin is rated as the #28 player in the 2022 class by ESPN and #30 by 247 Sports ratings.

Collin announced a month ago that BYU is in his final 6 schools along with Utah, Stanford, Gonzaga, Arizona and Oregon. He had an unbelievable summer and has rocketed up recruiting rankings.

BYU coaches had an in-home visit with Collin Tuesday night and all accounts are that it went very well. Granted, you expect all in-home visits go well, but BYU’s and Collin’s side both came away impressed.

I spoke to Jason Chandler, Collin’s father, about the visit and Jason took the time to answer some questions.

“(The visit) went well,” Jason told me. “Collin has a great relationship with the coaching staff. They definitely put on a good pitch. Collin is trying to see where the best fit is for him right now. All the programs recruiting him have great upside and great coaches. Going to be a tough choice for him but he’s handling the pressure well. Coach Pope is doing his part recruiting and showing him that he’s wanted at BYU.”

With the recent news of the Big 12, that has become part of BYU’s pitch.

“Of course that (Big 12) is a big arrow in their quiver right now, tournament appearances the last couple of years and helping the kids with NIL opportunities.”

The BYU football team has made waves with their Built Bar and other NIL opportunities, but BYU Basketball is giving players plenty of opportunities as well and have given players more NIL resources than just about any other school in the nation.

One source close to BYU with whom I spoke said the visit “went great” and BYU is trying to lock down an official visit with Collin. He took an unofficial visit to BYU in June with his family and girlfriend.

If I had to say at this point, I would say Utah and Stanford are the two favorites. Collin grew up in a Utah family and the Stanford academics are a big draw for him.

BYU coaches are going with the full court press, and Collin currently has plans to serve a mission right out of high school, which would help BYU’s chances. BYU’s first season in the Big 12 would be right when Collin gets home from his mission, so that adds a new wrinkle to this and gives BYU some extra ammo.

BYU has some stiff competition for Collin, but Pope and the coaching staff will go all out until Collin signs his NLI.
