PROVO, Utah – Weber High standout DE/LB Aisea Moa is now committed to play for BYU football

The son of former Utah great Ben Moa was once committed to his dad’s alma mater earlier this year, but late last month Moa decided to open up his recruitment by de-committing from the Utes. BYU stepped right in as the favorite for the class of 2022 standout.

On Friday night, the BYU football recruiting page sent out a vague “bat signal” video. Which typically is code for a new commit. Remember, schools can’t discuss recruits publicly. But the bat signal video was covered in ice. A nice tip of the cap to Moa who goes by the nickname “ice.”

On Saturday, after BYU’s 26-17 loss to Boise State, Moa cheered up BYU fans a little bit by announcing his commitment to the Cougars.

Along with having ties to the University of Utah, Moa also has legacy connections to BYU. Moa’s uncle is former BYU tight end Carlos Nuno. Nuno played for BYU in the late 1990s.

The 6-foot-3, 245-pound prospect is one of the highest-rated recruits in the state of Utah for the 2022 recruiting cycle. He’s also a top prospect nationally. According to the 247Sports Composite ratings, Moa is the 287th recruit in the nation. He’s the fourth-ranked prospect in the state of Utah.

Moa is now the highest-rated recruit in BYU’s 2022 recruiting class. A group that has been gaining steam in recent weeks with the addition of Corner Canyon WR Cody Hagen and now Moa.

After de-committing from Utah, schools such as Oregon State and Miami were in the mix.

Moa is considered an overall athlete who likely projects to play on the defensive side at either defensive end or outside linebacker. But he also has seen time on the offensive side of the ball as a tight end. This season, Moa put in work with former BYU WR Ross Apo to train as a receiver.

Moa along with fellow BYU commit Cannon DeVries has helped lead Weber High to a 7-2 record so far this season. He’s recorded 43 tackles, five sacks, and one interception this season.

BYU now has 17 commitments in the class of 2022, with 14 hailing from the state of Utah. Prospects can sign their letters of intent beginning on December 15 during the early signing period.
