BYU Alums in the NFL: Week 5

The BYU Cougars have a healthy representation in the National Football League this year. Let’s break down some of the action among BYU alums in the NFL.

Zach Wilson, QB, New York Jets

The Jets traveled to London to take on the Atlanta Falcons across the pond. It was another rough go for the Jets rookie quarterback. After building momentum from his first win as a pro the week prior, he struggled to keep the mojo going. He completed less than 60 percent of his passes, going 19-for-32, with 192 yards. He threw another interception and failed to notch a passing score.

He currently leads in the NFL with nine interceptions and is also last in the league in passer rating. Certainly, there were going to be growing pains for the 22-year-old in New York and that has come to pass.

Taysom Hill, QB, New Orleans Saints

Hill got just one touch (a catch for 11 yards) on nine total snaps before leaving the game with a scary injury. He took a shot to the head attempting to catch another pass and came away with what looks to be a fairly serious concussion. He ended up being carted off the field.

No word yet on the severity of the injury or how much time Hill could miss. Best wishes to the former BYU quarterback.

Jamaal Williams, RB, Detroit Lions

For the third consecutive week, Williams benefitted from double-digit touches for Detroit. In that heartbreaking loss to the Vikings on a last-second field goal, Williams toted the ball 13 times for 57 yards, for an average of 4.4 yards per carry. He also caught two passes for eight yards. He is currently the Lions’ leading rusher on the season.

Dax Milne, WR, Washington Football Team

After being a healthy scratch in several games to start the NFL regular season, Milne finally logged his first NFL reception. He caught a six-yard pass from Taylor Heinicke and also drew a key pass interference call.

Brady Christensen, OT, Carolina Panthers

Christensen was selected in the third round of this past spring’s draft by Carolina. To this point, he had only logged an occasional snap on offense in jumbo packages and a few on special teams. However, in Sunday’s game against the Eagles, he notched his first career NFL start at right tackle. He played every single offensive snap for the Panthers and many think he should be the starter moving forward.

Fred Warner, LB, San Francisco 49ers

Despite the loss, the 49ers defense played well, holding the high-octane Cardinals to just 17 points. The All-Pro Warner was a big part of that, collecting nine total tackles including seven solo takedowns. It was his third straight contest with at least nine tackles. He leads San Francisco with 45 tackles on the season.
