BYU Women’s Basketball has a strong core returning, and the coaches acknowledged that by picking the Cougars to finish first in the conference over Gonzaga. 8 of the 10 coaches picked BYU to win the WCC; coaches aren’t allowed to vote for their own team, so Jeff Judkins was one of two coaches to vote for Gonzaga.

Additionally, 3 BYU players made the 10-person All-WCC Team — Shaylee Gonzales, Lauren Gustin, and Paisley Harding. All three of those players made the first team last season.

BYU is coming off a 19-6 season where they finished second in the WCC and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament before narrowly falling to national runner-up Arizona. Guard Shaylee Gonzales was the WCC co-player of the year and Jeff Judkins was the WCC coach of the year.

BYU is looking to make it to three straight NCAA tournaments and advance to the second weekend. BYU will have higher expectations this season, but they have the players to make noise on the national stage.
