PROVO — It's time to throw the records out.
Sure, Utah State comes into Provo for the annual in-state Wagon Wheel rivalry game with No. 19 BYU as a 24-point underdog, and riding a two-game losing streak that includes a 35-7 upset by Weber State and a 34-24 loss to Mountain West foe UNLV.
And while this isn't the rivalry for either team, it is still a rivalry — and you know what that means.
You've got to throw the records out.
"Rivalry football is what college football is all about, in my opinion," Utah State coach Blake Anderson said earlier this week. "I absolutely love it. I hate to see it go. I understand why it is. You would like to think it will come back around at some point and we will be able to get it sorted out where this game comes back in the future. But for awhile, this is going to be the last one, and I can't think of a better time to play our best ball to get a win."
With the Cougars' upcoming move to the Big 12 complicating the schedule and canceling four previously scheduled games in the in-state series that dates back to 1922, will Thursday night's game (6 p.m. MDT, ESPN) be the last?
