The first wave of Mark Pope’s departure hit Friday as BYU starting point guard Dallin Hall entered the portal.

Hall started 30 games for Hall this season, averaging 9 points and 5 assists on 36% shooting from deep. Sources told me that Hall has been mulling entering the transfer portal for a few weeks now, and the coaching change is now the opportunity for him to gauge his NIL value in the transfer portal.
BYU’s next head coach could influence Hall, or any player, to return. I would be surprised if Hall follows Pope to Lexington since I think Pope will aim for more talented point guards. I don’t think Hall will be BYU’s only portal departure and I expect others to follow. The sooner BYU can get their head coach, the sooner he can convince Hall and other players to return to BYU next season.
