2025 4-Star Guard JJ Mandaquit Talks BYU Offer

Kevin Young was in Provo Monday between games 1 and 2 of the Suns-Timberwolves series. Young made good use of his time, locking down the public commitment of 4-star forward Brody Kozlowski and offering one of the top point guards in the 2025 class in JJ Mandaquit.

A native of Hawaii, JJ has played the last couple season at Utah Prep (formally RSL Academy). He is a consensus 4-star recruit and rated as the number 49 prospect in the 2025 class by 247 Sports. In addition to BYU, JJ holds offers from Louisville, Tennessee, San Diego State, Utah, Utah State, Washington State, Hawaii, and several others. JJ earned a great honor last summer as one of 12 players named to Team USA’s U16 national team. JJ is a pure point guard who is one of the best floor generals in the country and a great scorer.

I talked to JJ Monday night to get his thoughts on BYU and the recent offer.

“I was on campus Monday for an unofficial visit and Coach Young actually was there to offer in person. I really enjoyed my time talking with him and getting to hear his vision for both the program and myself.

I didn’t know much about BYU until moving to Utah but I’ve had the chance to watch a few football games and a handful of basketball games; the support for the teams here is like no other place that I’ve experienced. Every game I’ve been to has been sold out and the atmosphere is electric.”

JJ saw Brody Kozlowski’s commitment Monday; both were part of the Utah Prospects AAU Program. Brody was on the U17 team and JJ on the U16 team.

“I was super excited when I saw Brody’s commitment post. We’re pretty close and we keep in contact pretty often. I saw him at the airport the other week and we got to catch up a little. I didn’t know he was going to commit but I’m happy for him and excited to see what the future brings for him at BYU.”
